Type Slowly

Dear LJ,

Lately, we have been acting like old friends who have grown apart. Sometimes we will still say a few words to each other, but they are short and mean little to both parties, much like asking how someone is, and only getting a curt 'good' in reply.

I cannot say that this is because my real life is such a raging party that I have not time for the internet, because that would fool no one. Everybody within the imaginary five metre radius of my heart knows that I am a loser and no such excitement occurs in my life.

In the meantime of my absence, the following things have occurred:
- Pavement is my new favourite band-I-never-loved-when-I-was-four-years-old
- pretended to go to uni for a week and felt all high and mighty and infinitely superior to the Degree in a Day kids
- enjoy my non-study
- worrying about having to write an essay about Che Guevara in two weeks time when all I know about him is that he had asthma, his face is on everyone's t-shirts and that he was played by this hot guy in the Motorcycle Diaries
- violent spending of my parents money

So, old friend we have now renewed our acquaintance. I hope to see you more often.

It's been a little while. Here, have another list.

win.
01. MATT SMITH/ Danny Foster for THE DOCTOR
02. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
03. Josh Pyke on repeat at work
04. See you in April, Tim Minchin
05. Hong Kong dramas are so bad they're good

lose.
01. Possibly going on Duke of Ed hike with too many people, half of which being Anthony Ho's friends
02. Going to bed on New Year's Eve
03. Being cancelled on/ cancelling on everyone
04. Too many family plans with people I don't even know
05. Watching Hong Kong dramas will be the death of me

And of course the fact that all on my win list are either famous or fictional says nothing about my social life.

1. So it turns out there is a stereo at work, and we can bring in CDs to play over shopping centre Christmas carols. We had Paramore on repeat the whole day.
2. I love you, Zadie Smith.
3. Spent all of my first paycheque on Monday. ATMs are so funny.
4. Alright, so it's Christmas. I don't care, it's getting annoying now.
5. Some family friend bought me a copy of Twilight for Christmas. Me and my sister started laughing, and mother dear said, what? is it a good book or not?
6. I am so excited about back-to-school sales at Officeworks, more than my upcoming string of family outings, more than 2009. I will not rest until I get more glue sticks and cheap pens.
I felt like I should make separate a post for this.

1. The (Shipped) Gold Standard
2. Today I stepped on the same ground all the kids on Modular would have
3. I screwed up the whole senior quad on Sunday and made them lose to intermediates
4. Imagine Ms. McKay reading the Bible. Yeah, okay, that's basically how I felt yesterday when I saw my TKD instructor do the same thing
5. I love Obama. But I'm not going to wear his face on a bag, thanks
6. Naomi and Ely's No Kiss List
7. Brendon Urie on 20 Dollar Nose Bleed. Go and listen, and you will understand.
8. I am doing Silver Duke of Ed
9. Eating all my fundraiser chocolate again
10. PIES WITH FACES
11. The lyrics to the buffalo song would be so much better if they were "perfect boys with their perfect plights". That would fit better with the tragedy line.
12. I am running out of things to say, but I made it to a dozen.

We even had a picnic blanket and ice cream cake.

IT WAS SO MUCH FUN, Harry Potter, chairs that are alive, Rabbi Sophia, eating Cass the gingerbread man.

+ FAD is out on the 13th here.

My left arm is so sore it feels like it's just an extension of my shoulder just hanging by my side that is incapable of doing anything.

High School Musical 3 today was brilliant. And there was no sarcasm in that at all. There were so many unintentionally funny moments and ridiculous balcony climbing and high-tech treehouse scenes and great musical sets.

And then Jacquie went and bought a copy of Girlfriend for the headband, and we decided today was a very tweeny day indeed.

Baby Wentz
So I suppose I should have a bitch about baby names now. But in a way, I'm not really surprised, even after all that shit about having to be a rockstar or a senator.

This is what I half think, half hope. Peter Wentz and Ashlee Simpson and their un-downloadable baby are taking the piss outta celebrities who are naming their childrens ridiculous things. Mainly because I can see Angelina Jolie taking a number and joining the queue to adopt this kid. Oh, look at that. The perfect name to add to my collection.

Either that or they just succumbed. We're talking about Wentz here. What did you expect?

EDIT: O SRY. The kid is already adopted obvs. Wentzlee = wolves.

How much does it feel like life was put on pause for you to do a week of work experience? So here's what has been happening other than hanging out with people who are just too cool for the past couple of days.

- Fall Out Boys tickets came in the mail for me!
- Finally someone at Pie Face remembers me
- I have a week to buy a formal dress (and shoes and accessories and make up and hair and other such pointless things)
- The need to write my DOE reflection statements and get signatures for my first Student Rec
- A Clockwork Orange. Real horrorshow.

And is that picnic still happening tomorrow? The weather is going to be shit.

WORKEXP: day the last
So I got a bit of a sleep-in this morning, cos I only have to be at Glebe by quarter to ten. They gave me a Cabcharge and I took a taxi from Centrale. What is with taxi drivers and not wearing seatbelts? The one there and the one back both didn't wear his.

The studio place was so well-lit and cool. Everything else was just waiting around for client approval and such, trash mags a-flicking. And then by the time I got back, it was three. Half an hour of interwebz, and then I just said goodbye to everyone. Well, everyone else that was left. They were all off getting ready for their party.

WORKEXP: day the fourth

Everyone in creative is fucking nuts. True story. Strategy, you have a challenger.

Today was all bean bags and iced coffee and body percussion and dirty quotes and correcting time sheets and speaking en francais and coming up with an ad to sell magazines to "Parramatta housewives".

I barely even took lunch, mainly because it was sprinkling at little, but really, I didn't have to. The whole day was lunch, and they fed me anyway. Here, have a strawberry, here, have some chips, here, have a beer.

And off to Glebe tomorrow for Grazia.

What? Only a week?

WORKEXP: day the second + day the third

Tuesday:
Most of the day spent with the CommSec team, and it took me too long to figure out what CommSec even does, so you can guess how the rest of the day went. I sat in on two briefings, and looked through competitor stuff and did a lot of sitting.

They sit so much. I sit so much. I'm just tired of sitting.

Wednesday:
Strategy. Yes, Jeff, it was the most fun. The most fun with banana smoothies and whiteboard cleaning and talking about girl problems and scoring early at away games and fish and chips without the chips. Brilliant. Oh, yes. I know all about strategy now.

And then after lunch, I'm back sitting at a computer looking for pointless gadgety stuff they can give away as prizes for some alcoholic drink. Not strategy.

Only a week.

WORKEXP: day the first
Tailored pants ruined my life. I don't think it would have felt half as awkward if I was wearing something else.

But other than that, everything is going just fine. Today was just conversations about what I did in O.C., picking one trashy magazine over another and Google image-ing 'golf playing leprechauns'.

Everything was just so surreal, like I was living some office TV show. They even make that's-what-she-said jokes! It's a ten minute job, guys! Oh, that's what she said. And cue the laughter.

Typical scenario as follows:
"How're you going?" -sticks hand out at me- What? Oh, oh, you want to shake it. Right.

Please somebody give me Agnes' number, because lunchtime is so lonely. I really just walked up and down Oxford Street for forty minutes and headed back early.

Apparently I'm in on a good week because I get to go to a shoot of an edit of the Grazia ad, and also because my not-of-age self is not invited to their Christmas party so I get to go home early on Friday.

Hooray. Well, it's only a week.

"smart casual"
Honestly, as if my dress sense wasn't just retarded enough. Unless I wear the same thing every day for the next five days, I might as well go to work wearing a sandwich board.

I have to go early tomorrow for this meeting they're having. Jacquie thinks they want me to get them breakfast.

I am so excited and nervous at the same time, and I guess it doesn't help that everything I know about advertising I learnt off Wil Anderson. The anticipation is making me all the chocolate I am supposed to be selling. I owe myself five dollars I don't have, already.

Tomorrow it will rain, and I will get lost and not know what to say, and eat lunch alone in the toilets like a certain homeschooled white African kid.

Oh, it's only a week.

Even though we didn't get rained on, not at the Rocks at least. It was more of a misadventure, but like Jacquie said, an adventure nonetheless.

But I'm not even going to talk about it. I will just sit in bed eating the chocolate I'm supposed to sell and waiting for my hair to dry.

Goodnight, kids.

Aujourd'hui, on ne fait rien

The most thinking I had to do today was for Mister Squiggle in history.

My dealings with the Tax Office in Parramatta went unsually well after all that crap in the city. The walk there seemed three times longer than the walk back. It really wasn't that far in the end.

I was stopped in the street by an ex-Sydney Girl who thought I knew my way around and wanted to know where the ferries were. So what people say is true. Old girls do like talking to you.

I also inconspicuously walked past Pie Face to see if the manager was there. She was not. I will just have to make calls to them every day until she picks up the phone.

Jacquie you better have permission tomorrow night. I do not want your mum to be moody and not let you go.

To the point of tears

After a hundred computer skills questions, sharing a toilet cubicle with Cass and reading dirty French terms in Kino, we found ourselves having a Japanese buffet lunch.

A had so much sushi I really thought I would throw it all up when I was laughing. So Jess and Cecil kept making faces with food for each other and another table were celebrating someone's birthday too, so we went and said hi and happy birthday.

THE SEAWEED SUSHI MADE EVERYONE CRY.

Haha, Mishelle, you are my new best friend. Even though it would be safer for the both of us if we never see each other again.

And then I wandered over to Centrepoint Plaza to find the Tax Office, but they moved accoring to the guy at the juice bar, even though their website said they were there. I think Jaark said they moved to World Square, so I went there, but I couldn't find it. I gave up and went home like a loser.

At fricken Ticketek. Oh, Fall Out Boys, that is the cost of love.

In other news, the School Cert is over and I will never have to think about science again for the rest of my life unless conversation somehow turns to Lance Armstrong. It felt like everyone was going to the toilet just for something to do in the last half hour of every exam (even if it meant an old lady was standing outside the door supervising you).

I am so excited about work experience, I think I'll watch all the episodes of the Gruen Transfer all over again on the weekend and channel surf just to watch the ad breaks.
